PICTURES ARE COMING!!!
WHAT: This inaugural 4-mile race and 1.5 mile fitness walk take place on the beautiful tree-lined rolling hill streets of historic Roseland and Essex Fells, NJ. The race course is USATF-NJ sanctioned and certified. It is also part of the GRAND PRIX series (500 points).
WHERE: The events start and end at the Roseland Municipal Building, 19 Harrison Avenue. Parking is available at the Municipal Building, as well as the Calvary Evangelical Free Church on Fells Road and the Roseland Public Library. Please carpool when possible.
WHEN: Saturday, April 10, 2010. Registration begins at 7:30am. The race starts at 9:00am, the walk starts immediately following. Rain or shine.
WHY: Co-founder, Carolyn Mastrangelo, has teamed up with a friend, Barbara Geiger, to combine two things that she loves: her mom and running. Carolyn's mother was struck with Alzheimer’s at the young age of 55. For over ten years, Carolyn's family has helplessly watched her mother deteriorate. The statistics regarding this disease are nothing short of frightening. As a runner, Carolyn looks for races with causes she believes in. She could not find a race that benefitted Alzheimer’s. She and Barbara took matters into their own hands. Please join them in raising funds and awareness. It promises to be a great morning!

WHO: All proceeds benefit Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (www.curealzfund.org). This organization was chosen for their concentration on research.
The mission of Cure Alzheimer's Fund is to fund research with the highest probability of slowing, stopping or reversing Alzheimer's disease. So far, Cure Alzheimer’s Fund has contributed 8.5 million dollars toward research and has identified more than 70 genes linked to the disease…and they’re not stopping until there’s an end to Alzheimer’s.
The research projects they fund are based on a 4-part roadmap, which they believe is the quickest way to a cure:
- find all the genes that contribute to risk for the disease;
- figure out which ones contribute the most and have the best prospects for treatment;
- determine how these genes actually lead to increased risk;
- and find the drug therapies that can most safely and effectively disrupt this link.
Cure Alzheimer’s Fund was founded by three families and these founders underwrite all of the Foundation’s expenses, so every dollar donated goes directly toward funding research. For more information, please visit their website at www.curealzfund.org.
